The 2010 Kia Rio
Safety Features

SIX STANDARD AIR BAGS
  • Dual front advanced air bags
  • Utilize sensors to adjust deployment force based on the severity of an impact
  • Help protect occupants during certain frontal collisions by minimizing the likelihood of air bag-related injuries
  • Front seat-mounted side air bags Provide additional chest protection during certain side impacts
  • Full-length side curtain air bags Provide supplemental head and upper body protection by deploying in certain side collisions
4-WHEEL ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM (ABS) WITH REAR DISC BRAKES
  • Modulates brake pressure to help prevent wheel lock-up during hard braking situations
  • Helps give the driver better control of the vehicle to steer clear of potential collisions
  • Optional on Rio LX, SX, Rio5 LX and Rio5 SX
STANDARD TIRE-PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM (TPMS)
  • Alerts the driver to a low-pressure condition in one or more tires
  • Helps the driver achieve better performance and handling and improved gas mileage
ADDITIONAL STANDARD SAFETY FEATURES
  • Front and rear crumple zones are designed to absorb impact energy before it reaches the cabin
  • Front and rear side-impact door beams increase structural rigidity for enhanced protection during certain side collisions
  • Front seat-belt pretensioners automatically cinch the belts tight in severe collisions, then force limiters release belt tension milliseconds after air bag deployment to reduce the force applied to the occupant
  • The Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children (LATCH) system provides anchors and tethers to simplify installation of approved child seats
  • Rear child-safety door locks ensure the rear doors can only be opened via the exterior door handles for added peace of mind
Insurance Institute for Highway Safety
"While most vehicles today can earn a good rating in our frontal tests, Kia is to be commended for producing one of the few midsize cars that also does a good job of preventing neck injuries in rear impacts."

Car and Driver
"…we were impressed with the Kia’s long list of standard safety features, like ABS and a full complement of airbags, which help it achieve top scores from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety in front and rear impact testing."
