The 2009 Kia Rondo
Safety Features

5-Star Frontal Crash Safety Rating
  • Awarded by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration
  • Highest possible rating in the NHTSA's New Car Assessment Program (NCAP)
  • 5-Stars for frontal crash tests
  • Model tested with standard side-impact air bags (SABs)
STANDARD ACTIVE SAFETY SYSTEMS
  • Electronic Stability Control (ESC) helps detect if the vehicle is straying from the driver's intended path, and can correct the situation by adjusting engine power and applying select brakes to help the driver bring the vehicle back in line
  • Traction Control System (TCS) can sense wheel spin during acceleration and counteract it by reducing engine power and/or applying brake force to the slipping wheel and then transferring power the wheel(s) with traction for increased control and enhanced responsiveness
ADDITIONAL STANDARD SAFETY FEATURES
  • Front active headrests automatically move the headrests forward in rear-impact collisions to minimize the chance of neck injuries
  • Tire-Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) alerts the driver to a low-pressure condition in one or more tires for better performance and handling and improved gas mileage
  • Front and rear crumple zones are designed to absorb impact energy before it reaches the cabin
  • Front and rear side-impact door beams increase structural rigidity for enhanced protection during certain side collisions
  • Front seat-belt pretensioners automatically cinch the belts tight in severe collisions, then force limiters release belt tension milliseconds after air bag deployment to reduce the force applied to the occupant
  • The Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children (LATCH) system provides anchors and tethers to simplify installation of approved child seats
  • Rear child-safety door locks ensure the rear doors can only be opened via the exterior door handles for added peace of mind
POWERFUL BRAKES
  • 4-wheel disk brakes resist brake fade to deliver amazing stopping performance
  • 4-wheel Anti-Lock Brade System (ABS) modulates brake pressure to help prevent wheel lock-up during hard braking situations, helping to give the driver better control of the vehicle and steer clear of potential collisions
  • Electronic Brake-Force Distribution (EBD) allows variable brake pressure between front and rear brakes based on vehicle loading or aggressive cornering for improved stability
  • Brake Assist hydraulically assists driver brake input when a panic stop is detected, applying maximum braking pressure to help reduce stopping distances
SIX STANDARD AIR BAGS
  • Dual front advanced air bags utilize sensors to adjust deployment force based on the severity of an impact and help protect occupants during certain frontal collisions by minimizing the likelihood of air bag-related injuries
  • Front seat-mounted side air bags provide additional chest protection during certain side impacts
  • Full-length side curtain air bags provide supplemental head and upper body protection by deploying in certain side collisions
Class-Leading Safety
The Rondo's long list of standard safety features includes six airbags, anti-lock brakes and Electronic Stability Control. It has even earned a 5-star crash safety rating in frontal-impact tests from the U.S. government.

Car and Driver
"And it's nice to know that even if you have the showroom with the base Rondo, you still get ABS and stability control along with front, side, and curtain airbags."
