DRIVETRAIN CONFIGURATIONS Two advanced four-wheel drive confi gurations with a limited slip differential give Sorento owners the ability to better handle slick and rugged driving conditions on or off-road:

Part-time 4-wheel drive system with Electronic Shift Transfer:
- Electronic Shift Transfer (EST) uses a free running differential to adapt the front axle to shift-on-the-fly capability
- Using a dash-mounted selector knob, the driver can activate the high range (4H) of the 4-wheel drive system at speeds up to 50 mph
- Turning the knob to low (4L) provides greatest torque at low speeds for conquering especially tough angles or slopes – the vehicle must be stopped and in Neutral before shifting into 4L
Torque-On-Demand® automatic full-time 4-wheel drive system:
- This advanced system monitors traction conditions full-time and responds automatically and instantly to any potential loss of traction
- Under normal conditions with no loss of traction, the drivetrain operates with 100% of its power sent to the rear axle
- When wheel slip occurs, a transfer case instantly sends up to 50% of the engine’s torque to the front axle
